Overview

Awarded by the MBTA Massachusetts, the MBTA Greenline Train Station Projects kicked off in May 2020 and were completed in March 2024. The project spanned across seven train stations throughout Cambridge, Somerville, and Medford, MA. The stations included Lechmere, Union Square, East Somerville, Gilman, Magoun Square, Ball Square, and College Ave.

The seven stations were new construction and needed the application of epoxy paint, intumescent coatings, and micropoxy coatings. These adjustments not only elevated the aesthetic appeal of the stations, but they also reinforced the durability of the columns and structures, ensuring they withstand the test of time and heavy use. Additionally, they adhered to strict safety standards, providing fire resistance and structural integrity.

Heroica Construction was chosen for this project because of our long track record, financial stability, and specific certifications in handling epoxy and intumescent coatings. Our ability to manage large-scale projects efficiently and safely made us the perfect fit for this transformative effort.

Outcome

The completion of the MBTA Greenline Train Station Projects marks a significant milestone for Heroica Construction. Our team achieved several key milestones, including the successful application of industrial coatings, epoxy coatings, urethane coatings, anti-graffiti coatings, Intumescent coatings and concrete sealer to all seven stations, strict adherence to safety standards, and the completion of the project on time and within budget.

Throughout the project, we navigated complex logistical challenges in urban environments, coordinated work schedules to minimize disruption to daily train operations, and maintained the highest safety protocols during the application of specialized coatings.

These accomplishments demonstrate Heroica Construction’s capability to handle large-scale, complex projects with precision and efficiency. The new train stations feature structural integrity and visual appeal, serving the communities of Cambridge, Somerville, and Medford with renewed functionality and aesthetic charm.

With this project, Heroica Construction reaffirms its commitment to excellence, safety, and innovation in the construction industry.
